Women’s Singles Championship Is Wide Open

The 2019 US Open Tennis Championships are about to get underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York, while the men’s singles championship looks to be a race between the big three once again, the same can’t be said for the wide open women’s draw, there has been a different Grand Slam women’s singles champion in each of the three previous major events this season and that trend could very well continue in the next fortnight on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The US Open women’s singles event has a large number of championship contenders this year and quite a few of these women have solid credentials as to why they should be favoured to lift the silverware, in my opinion there is at least ten women who have a realistic chance of being crowned the champion in New York in 2019.

Top seed and defending champion Naomi Osaka will be looking to go on another run similar to last year, current Roland Garros champion and No.2 seed Ashleigh Barty should relish the fast hardcourts and could be dangerous, third seed Karolina Pliskova is a former US Open finalist and will be hoping that she can recreate her best form, No.4 seed and current Wimbledon champ Simona Halep will be looking to back up her great form from SW19, Petra Kvitova is a two-time former Wimbledon champ and was this years AO runner-up who is always dangerous when in the mood, 23-time Grand Slam champ Serena Williams will be looking to notch up major win No.24 on home soil to equal the  more »
