I will continue to point out that we have no REAL reason to think he's guilty of anything, anyway.  So, for now, let's just say that, based only on hard facts, we know he's innocent.  If new information comes to light that proves otherwise, only then will we know otherwise.  For the time being, it's really not even a question.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

If Nadal had more dominant seasons he would much more scrutinized, Dwight.
His success is spread out more over time than Federer and Djokovic which may
or may NOT be manufactured!!!

For a player that has beaten Federer 24 times in his career......he has many strange
losses to journeyman players and of course with success sprinkled in between those
losses!!! His single season loss totals are much higher than Federer and Djokovic which
could also be a direct result of purposely increasing the loss totals to decrease scrutiny!!!
If you carefully look at Nadal's most dominant seasons.....they are NOT even close to the
full season (January to November) dominance of Federer and Djokovic!!! In other words,
Nadal has always lost at least 7 or 8+ times in his best seasons while Federer and Djokovic
had seasons where they lost 5 times or less!!!

The TRUTH is Nadal has obviously been successful BUT his results are very uneven and
might cause a person to believe he "manufactured" many of his losses to such names
like Rosol, Darcis, Brown, Muller etc. etc..

We simply will NEVER be completely CERTAIN as fans/observers of Tennis if their are
some high profile matches that are staged to be more competitive or if outcomes are
possibly pre-determined!!! I obviously hope NOT but IMO we the fans are being sold
a product even more so than in the 70s,80s, and 90s and who knows!!!

Perhaps, but being paranoid about it and always looking at tennis out of the corner of our eyes instead of full on just ruins it, anyways.  In my opinion.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

It is NOT paranoia just an observation because with the passage of time the ATP
Tour has grown an enormous group of fans all over the world and they may have
reason to  appease them!!! Hopefully NOT because I enjoy tennis......but nowadays
we the consumers are always being sold lies and half-truths!!

Oh I mean Nadal gave Krajinovic a walkover into the semis which is surprising. The
Paris Masters has without a doubt the most obscure semifinalist this year in Krajinovic.

OK......the Paris Masters has the strangest quartet of semifinalists in a very long time!!!

Krajinovic, Isner, Benneteau, and either Verdasco or Sock I am certain were NOT
predicted by anybody!!! I guess the players did NOT put the Paris Masters on their
high priority list!!!

The last topic was very relevant though because Nadal is an interesting player NOT
just his game but the trajectory of his success/losses can be interpreted in a positive
or negative way!!!

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Players like Nadal get up for Slams and top opponents but often have let downs against lesser opponents at non majors - While less known players are always up for top players - So upsets happen - Its not a conspiracy...

PS: The earth is not flat..!!!

Even Roger has only lost to lower ranked players this year...he has torn up the rest of the higher ranked players.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Dwight, are you sure Nadal "only" has 7.08 average at RG? I expected it to be higher wink

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Yes, it is a very interesting fact about the mastery of Nadal in Roland Garros, 7.08 / 8 is almost impossible to reach.

10 - W (record for a player in the same GS)
1 - QF
1 - 4R
1 - 3R

Do you think that Rafa could overcome the 10?

Yes Rafa can take #11. VAMOS NADAL!

Re: Nadal number one at year end

With Nadal's freakish superior physical strength over the field he may win Roland Garros until
he is 60 years old, Lexus-GF!!! LOL

Nadal deserves to be world #1 for 2017 but I believe the drug testing in pro Tennis is WEAK!!!

When Nadal retires we the fans may learn about his possible abuse of PED's throughout his
career!!!

His career has been as strange and as weird as his game with many absences from Tennis and
very uneven results (example: early losses at Wimbledon from 2012 to 2017)!!!

Furthermore, Nadal's withdrawal from Wimbledon 2009 is also very SUSPICIOUS because he
played about 4 weeks later!!! The defending Wimbledon champion did NOT play the 2009
Wimbledon Championship either because of a "knee injury" or many rumors speculate that
he may have tested positive for something thus the reason the All England Club would NOT
let Nadal compete!!! Uhh.......who knows for now but where there is smoke there is usually
plenty of fire!!!

Yes, I think that if his knees are not a problem, he should come to 11 RGs, but we all saw what happen in the World Tour Final, when he first said that was ready to play, and then retires from the tournament only a game later.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Interesting analysis sneaky, everything can be, but probably we will only know the reality, if it is that we know it some day, after his retirement. Meanwhile let's keep on enjoying his game, which in spite of everything is brilliant.

Yes, already I go for the second half, it´s like the second week of a Grand Slam, approaching the big final smile

Re: Nadal number one at year end

I sometimes think Nadal could retire with, like... 15 French Opens.  More than ALL of Sampras' Slams.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

LOL that would be so incredible. Would bring his tally to 21 slams.. as long as Roger has more I am fine with that .

But rafa will never win 15 french open, sorry.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

No, of course not, but after last year I can almost visualize it.

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Hmm........Nadal has won Roland Garros 10 out of the last 12 seasons!!!

This year he routed Thiem in the semis and it is a fact that Thiem is 8 years
younger than Nadal!!! Uh so if Nadal is to win 5 more Roland Garros trophies
he would presumably have to out grind/outlast/ players that are 8, 10, and
maybe even 15 years younger than him!!! Can he do it? Hopefully, NOT
because it would be nice to see a dynamic attacking player dominate Roland
Garros with skill and versatility in the coming years!!!

I have a theory that Nadal and his uncle are content to be 2nd to the "Great
Federer." If Nadal were to surpass the "Great Federer" some people might
start asking questions and that might NOT be good for Nadal if you know
what I mean!!!

Then Nadal to keep on winning needs that Federer wins also, therefore there are not convenient for him things like what happened in the past WTF, according to your another theory... hmm

Re: Nadal number one at year end

I am NOT sure what you mean in your above post, Lexus-GF.

Nadal has NEVER won the WTF and Federer has won it 6 times.

Yes it is very likely Nadal will win another 2 maybe 3 only if
Federer wins another major putting Nadal just behind Federer!!!

IMO.......Nadal seems physically just as strong as when he was
19 or 20 years old!! He is the physically strongest player to ever
play Tennis IMHO!!! He hits loopy shots from 15 feet behind the
baseline and retrieves most shots hit to him, defends almost every
ball hit to him, and NEVER seems to get fatigued!!!

Don't forget......Nadal has won 16 majors so far with a substandard
serve and return of serve!!! Nadal wins with raw physical strength
and his game is really just a forehand and legs meaning he is positioned
mostly on the backhand side to hit mostly forehands!!! Obviously he
pulls it off because he has better foot speed than any other player!!!

It is suspicious enough to have a defensive player win 16 majors . Nadal
is the most successful defensive player ever having won 16 majors with
a substandard serve and return of serve. Is there a player in history that
has won so much without a good serve and return of serve!!! Uhh......NO!!!

IMO.......Nadal's current total of 16 majors is way above what a player with
his natural ability should have achieved!!! Another 5 majors would perhaps
raise eyebrows even higher making people take a harder look at him IMHO!!!

Re: Nadal number one at year end

Why all the conspiracy - Nadal's game is well suited for the clay surface..!!! He is the best ever to play Roland Garros  and a true tennis champion...

Federer is a more complete player and the Greatest Tennis Champion..!!!
