Nadal & Barty Claim Glory In Paris

Jun 11, 2019

The 2019 Roland Garros Championships in Paris have come to an end and it was yet another historic Grand Slam event with Rafael Nadal notching up a record 12th men’s singles RG crown, while Australian Ashleigh Barty claimed her first major women’s championship singles title respectively.

Nadal was simply supreme once again in Paris and if the Spaniard can stay fit for a few more years on tour, few would bet against him from adding to his amazing haul at the French Open, Barty was a completely different story altogether, but the 23 year old Queensland native from Ipswich certainly made headlines of her own throughout the two weeks, Barty had never previously made it further than the second round at RG, but 2019 changed all that for the popular Aussie as she swept her way to her maiden Grand Slam title.

Debate may well go on for years and years about who the men’s tennis GOAT is, but one thing that can’t be debated is the fact that Rafa is simply the King of Clay and the GOAT on the red dirt surface, his achievements on clay will probably never be matched or surpassed and his name will forever be linked with the French Open Championships in Paris, it’s staggering to think that the native from Manacor in Spain has won the same Grand Slam event an amazing twelve times, nothing Rafa now does would shock tennis fans anymore I believe.

Barty is probably wondering how Nadal can do this eighteen times after winning her very first major event, however the Aussie will now surely be a popular choice among tennis fans at The Championships in Wimbledon at the end of the month, few would have predicted that Ash would claim her first Grand Slam title in Paris, even Barty herself was probably left pinching herself at the amazing two weeks she had at RG, but now that she has had a taste of a GS title it will be interesting to see whether the young Australian can add to her success again in 2019.
