Djokovic & Osaka Confirm No.1 Status

Saturday, February 2nd, 2019

The 2019 Australian Open has now been written down in the history books, and history will say that Novak Djokovic and Naomi Osaka were crowned the respective men’s and women’s singles champions after two weeks of exciting and exhilarating tennis in Melbourne, Australia, the first Grand Slam event of the season didn’t disappoint with plenty of tight and tense battles between the best players in the world of tennis, however after a fortnight of terrific tennis, Djokovic and Osaka confirmed their status as world No.1 by winning the men’s and women’s singles championship respectively.

Novak produced arguably the most perfect performance ever seen in a major final, dismantling Rafael Nadal comprehensively in straight sets, the form that the Serb displayed in the final was simply superb, Nadal hadn’t dropped a set heading into the championship decider, but that meant nothing to Djokovic as he found his A+ game to dominate the final on Rod Laver Arena, Osaka found the going a little tougher in her match with Petra Kvitova though, the 21 year old from Japan had to show her mental toughness in the final after Kvitova had threatened a comeback by winning the second set, Naomi showed her maturity by knuckling down and winning a tight third set against the popular Czech, in doing so she claimed back to back Grand Slam titles and become the new women’s world No.1.

Djokovic has now claimed the last three men’s major titles and Osaka the last two women’s, nobody can dispute that more »
