Halep Looks Ready To Win Her Maiden Grand Slam

Jun 8, 2018

Women’s world No.1 Simona Halep looks ready and poised to finally break her Grand Slam drought in Paris in the final of the women’s singles at the 2018 French Open, however she will have to overcome not only her nerves, but also an in-form and current US Open champion Sloane Stephens to do so, Halep has been to the final at Roland Garros on two separate occasions, losing last year to Jelena Ostapenko in three sets and in 2014 to Maria Sharapova, also in three sets, will this be third time lucky at RG for the popular Romanian?

Her American opponent Stephens has been in sublime form in Paris over the past fortnight and she will be keen to repeat her triumph from New York last year, another major win for Sloane would see her crowned a multiple Grand Slam champion at the age of 25, another Grand Slam final loss for Halep would see the 26 year old Romanian go to 0 from 4 in major championship decider’s, has Simona learnt from her previous disappointments and will she finally claim her first major singles title, or will Stephens simply play the better tennis and win her second major title from the past three Grand Slam events?

The women’s final should be an enthralling contest with Halep’s court coverage and ability to stay in the point versus Stephens power and willingness to go for her shots, Halep will clearly start the final as the favourite, but if Stephens gets on a roll or Simona feels a touch of the jitters, which she has been prone to in the past, we could see a very tight contest and one which could go either way.
