Can Novak Be Stopped In Paris?

The 2016 version of Roland Garros is now underway and the burning question that seems to be on the lips of most tennis fans is, can anyone stop Novak Djokovic from adding the French Open crown to his growing list of achievements, that question will be definitely be answered throughout the next fortnight of course but with the first day of the tournament now behind us, I thought it appropriate to look at the contenders who will try and prevent Djokovic from Grand Slam glory once again.

In the men’s singles championship, it appears that Nole will have five main threats to worry about in 2016, his recent Rome conqueror Andy Murray, defending French Open champion Stan Wawrinka, nine-time RG champ and King of Clay Rafael Nadal, consistent world No.5 Kei Nishikori and the popular Frenchman and 2015 semi-finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Djokovic will not have to contend with world No.3 Roger Federer who withdrew through injury.

Novak won’t have to face any of these five players until at least the semi-finals (Nadal or Tsonga), therefore the undisputed world No.1 must start a warm favourite to win his first title at Roland Garros in 2016 and claim his career Grand Slam in the process, if he is to square off against any of the remaining three threats (Murray, Wawrinka, Nishikori), it will obviously be against only one of them in the French Open final, a GS victory therefore at RG this year would require Nole to produce two strong back to back performances against the best of the res more »
